Martyn H. “Bear” Smith, 69

*MARTYN H. “BEAR” SMITH* age 69 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away
unexpectedly Monday morning August 30, 2010 at his home.

He was born March 14, 1941 in Sturgis, Michigan a son of the late Hubert
and Dorothy (Lampe) Smith.

Bear had resided his entire life in Sturgis and was a graduate of Sturgis
High School with the class of 1959.

On July 23, 1965 he married Harriet Caywood at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis.

He had owned and operated Bear Associates in Sturgis and had also worked
at the Darling Company in Bronson and American Travelers in Sturgis. Bear
had been involved in the real estate business with Profile Real Estate
also in Sturgis and for over ten years he delivered the Kalamazoo Gazette.

 Bear was a member of the Moose Lodge in LaGrange, Indiana and the Eagles
Lodge #1314. He enjoyed playing golf, fly fishing and pontoon rides around
Prairie Lake. He was also an avid reader and loved his cats.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Harriet, two sons, David (Karen)
Lindsay of Sturgis and Daniel (Wendy) Lindsay of Bronson, two daughters,
Denise Bowen of Sturgis and Dawn (John) Watson of Sturgis, 11
grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 grandsons, Justin Bowen, Casey
Bowen and Joseph Lindsay and one great granddaughter, Madelyn Bowen.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will
receive friends from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at
the *Hackman Family Funeral Homes – Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St.,
Sturgis, MI 49091, 269-651-2331* for a time of fellowship and sharing the
many memories of Bear. Following the time at the funeral home a luncheon
will be served at the Eagles Lodge in Sturgis at noon.
