Jonathan Edds Memorial event successful

One-hundred and forty-four participants raised about $8,600 during Saturday’s third annual Jonathan Edds Memorial 5K Run and Walk in White Pigeon.

The event is staged in memory of the White Pigeon native who was killed during combat in Iraq in 2007.

Merlin Miller of White Pigeon was the first participant to cross the finish line, while Megan Niblock of Constantine was the winner of the women’s division.

A related event later Saturday drew about 300 people to the dedication of the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Wall. The memorial, which recognizes six White Pigeon and White Pigeon-area men who died in conflict during a military commitment, is at the northwest corner of U.S. 12 and U.S. 131.
