Beverly Harker, 56

Beverly Jayne Harker, age 56, of Bronson, passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2013, at her home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1956, in Sturgis, a daughter of George and Myra (Cary) Mayer.

Beverly resided in the Bronson area most of her life, with the exception of the 10 years she lived in Ann Arbor. Bev was a graduate of Bronson High School with the class of 1974. She furthered her education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where she received her bachelor’s degree in social work and received her master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

On Aug. 15, 1997, she married Mark Harker in Sturgis.

For the past 21 years she had been employed by Holy Cross Children’s Services in Kalamazoo. Before joining Holy Cross, she had worked at the Department of Human Services in Coldwater for several years.

Beverly had a true love and appreciation for animals, especially her dogs, and she was always happiest when she was helping others.

She is survived by her loving husband, Mark; step-children Marshall Harker of Anderson, Ind., Ariel (Jamie) VonOlnhausen of Sturgis and Laurel Harker of Sturgis; her mother, Myra Mayer of Bronson; a twin sister, Barbara Phillips, of Sturgis; a brother:, Rex (Diane) Mayer, of Burr Oak; and her cherished nieces and nephews, Jason Mayer, Jarod Mayer, Jacob Mayer, Josh Mayer, Lynda Heintskill, Lori Bundy, Bryan Mayer; and especially her twin sister’s daughters, Rachel Phillips and Jordie Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Nile Mayer.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Rosenberg Chapel, Sturgis.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Beverly Harker will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
