Man arrested for DUI

A 55-year-old Sturgis man, whose license has been expired since 1987, was arrested after forcing a Michigan State Police trooper to take evasive action from being struck head-on Sunday evening in Mottville Township.

The trooper was driving westbound on U.S. 12 when an oncoming vehicle forced him to drive off the roadway.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was stopped near Burke Road and arrested for felony driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and refusing a breath test. The driver, whose name was not released pending arraignment, was found to have three prior drunken-driving charges since 1984. Troopers also discovered the man had seven traffic convictions for driving on a suspended license.

A 62-year-old female passenger was charged with allowing an intoxicated person to operate a motor vehicle.
