Celebration was a success

Organizers of the fifth annual Burr Oak Heritage Festival said despite rain and cool temperatures during key events, the 2013 community celebration was a success.

Sunday’s community worship service and hog roast had to be moved indoors due to wet conditions. Also, temperatures only in the upper 50s resulted in Saturday’s fireworks display drawing a smaller crowd than last year.

Heritage Festival Committee member Patty Seeba said Saturday afternoon’s 80-entry parade was still a hit and the recreation of a 1919 bank robbery attempt of the First National Bank of Burr Oak later Saturday drew more than 300 people to the village’s downtown district.

The four-day festival started Thursday with a sky-lantern launch.
