Emergency Response class

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department has announced it is hosting a Community Emergency Response Team class starting next month.

Sheriff Brad Balk said the CERT class educates program participants about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact the area. Balk said participants are trained in basic, disaster-response skills such as fire safety, search-and-rescue, team organization and disaster-medical operations.

The three-week class runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and takes place Nov. 9, 16 and 23 at the sheriff’s department.

Registration may be done through Capt. Jason Bingaman, at 467-9045., ext. 233.
