K-Wings fall to IceMen 2-0

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Kalamazoo Wings kicked off their season on the wrong foot on Saturday night as they were blanked by the Evansville IceMen by a score of 2-0.

In a rather uneventful game in terms of offense for the K-Wings, the IceMen scored the game winning goal in the first five minutes of the game and held on for the victory.

The IceMen would add an insurance goal later in the period for the 2-0 win. Mike Clemente stopped all 25 shots by the visiting K-Wings, handing them their second consecutive shutout, counting the 3-0 preseason loss to the Toledo Walleye last week. K-Wing net minder Joel Martin turned away 25 of the 27 shots he faced.

The K-Wings went 0-6 on the power play while the IceMen scored once in six attempts.

Opening their 40th season this Saturday night, the K-Wings will host the IceMen for the 10th Annual Orange Ice Game. The game, which begins at 7:30, will feature orange colored ice and a costume contest in which the K-Wings will award an adult and child winner with $100 each. The K-Wings will also be wearing Halloween themed jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game.
