Man shot in Portage

A Portage police officer shot a man armed with a knife Tuesday, who was a suspect in a stabbing, according to city officials. The suspect was taken to a local hospital, and his condition was not known. Deputy Chief Dan Mills says police responded to a report of a stabbing at 12:45 p.m., when they found a female stabbing victim, who reported that a man stabbed her and fled. During a search of the area a plainclothes officer saw the suspect who was still armed with knife. Mills says the officer had to shoot the suspect to end the threat. Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting. The officer was not injured. No names have been released.  (MRN)
