Area athletes named to all-state team

Three area athletes have been named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association First Team all-state team.

Pitcher Chance Stewart, a Sturgis High School three-star athlete who has committed to Western Michigan University as its football quarterback, was chosen as a Division 2 member for his baseball prowess.

In Division 4, Kaleb McCarroll of Mendon added the all-state honor in addition to being named St. Joe Valley league MVP for the second consecutive season. McCarroll, who graduated in June, played third base and pitched for the Hornets.

Also in Division 4, Centreville’s Michael Kool received the honor for his accomplishments during his sophomore season.

Kool played third base but saw limited action on the mound, as well. He was an integral part of the Bulldog team that won a district title in the 2014 season.
