Grant has been awarded

A state transportation grant has been awarded to the city of Sturgis to support expansion of a local factory, which will result in 40 jobs and a significant investment in the local economy.

State Rep. Matt Lori said VCI Inc. recently moved into a vacant building on West Dresser Drive in Sturgis and will invest $1.6 million in new equipment. The firm, which manufactures parts for the military and the aerospace, automotive and energy industries, will create 20 jobs and retain an additional 20 jobs at the expanded facility.

Lori said VCI had considered South Carolina for its expansion, but chose Michigan because of the reforms it has made in the past four years.

As a result of VCI’s expansion, the state’s Transportation Economic Development Fund will contribute more than $76,000 to resurface West Dresser Drive in front of the facility, with a match in excess of $88,000 match from the city. The resurfacing project will allow all-season access to U.S. 12.
