Sturgis city manager a finalist for Portage city manager

Sturgis city manager Mike Hughes is one of five finalists for the job of city manager in Portage.

The 40-year-old Hughes will interview Thursday morning during a 90-minute session with an interview team and the public.

Hughes, who has served as the top administrator in Sturgis since 2005, has been the recipient of high praise from the Sturgis City Commission.

Following Hughes’ annual evaluation last month, Mayor Ken Malone said Hughes leads by example and consistently proves to the city commission the great level of dedication he has to the city.

In light of the favorable review, Hughes was awarded a 1 percent raise, bumping his annual salary to $105,000.
