Centreville Police Chief suspended with pay

The fate of Luke Delcourt as chief of the Centreville Police Department could be decided next week after he was suspended with pay Monday.

Village President Jeff Johnson said the measure was taken following a closed-session meeting Monday night. Johnson said he is not at liberty to elaborate on the matter, as it is a personnel issue.

Johnson said the village’s police committee will review the matter this week and likely report its findings at the council’s regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The village’s police department was reestablished in April after ending a 20-year contract with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department for police coverage.

Delcourt’s salary is $40,000 annually.

Johnson said the four-person police department will be overseen by Sgt. David Richmond in Delcourt’s absence.
