Search warrant leads to arrest of Sturgis resident

Investigators from the St. Joseph County Area Narcotics unit served a search warrant and arrested a parole absconder Wednesday in Sturgis.

Sheriff’s officials said investigators received information about a Michigan Department of Corrections parole absconder who was staying on South Centreville Road and possibly trafficking illegal narcotics.

Officers were able to obtain a search warrant for the residence and take her into custody as she left the residence in a vehicle.

The search warrant turned up additional evidence of narcotics trafficking. The suspect, a 32-year-old female Sturgis resident whose name was not included in a department media release, was arrested without incident and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.

Additional charges for illegal narcotics will be sought at a later date to include possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and maintaining a drug house.
