No injuries in Burr Oak area crash

A 16-year-old Sturgis boy and five passengers were unharmed following a single-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Burr Oak Township.

State police said the car was being driven around 4:15 p.m. on McKale Road when it went out of control south of Hackman Road, rolled over and landed upside down in a ditch of two to three feet of water.

An investigation showed the owner of the car, which is registered to an Indiana resident, is out of the country and did not appear to give permission for the vehicle to be driven.

In addition to the driver, other occupants in the vehicle were a 16-year-old boy from Sturgis, a 15-year-old boy from Scotts, 14- and 15-year-old girls from Constantine, and a 15-year-old girl from Three Rivers.

The operator of the vehicle was charged with careless driving and violating conditions of his learner’s permit.

Investigators said alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
