Funeral set for Kalamazoo airman killed in helicopter crash

A funeral will be held this weekend for an airman from western Michigan who was one of two U.S. military personnel killed last week in a helicopter crash in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Services for 38-year-old Master Sgt. Gregory Kuhse of Kalamazoo are set to take place Saturday at Betzler Life Story Funeral Homes. The visitation begins at 11 a.m. and the funeral service starts at 1 p.m.

Kuhse and 45-year-old Major Phyllis Pelky of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, died Oct. 11 while supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. Three others aboard the helicopter also were killed and five others were hurt.

Kuhse was assigned to the 3rd Manpower Requirements Squadron at Scott Air Force Base in southern Illinois.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.  (AP)
