Charges expected after dogs, dog fighting equipment seized

Authorities say charges are expected after they seized dogs and dog fighting paraphernalia during a raid on a Kalamazoo-area home.

Kalamazoo County Animal Services and Enforcement Director Steve Lawrence tells the Kalamazoo Gazette the Oshtemo Township property searched Wednesday was home to a man who was convicted three years ago for his role in a dog fighting operation.

Lawrence says investigators sought a search warrant after they received tips that the man had dogs on his property. He says an investigation that included the assistance of the Humane Society of the United States found the man was trying to sell them for fighting.

The man wasn’t arrested Wednesday.

Lawrence says 10 dogs, including seven pit bull terriers, were seized but there was no evidence of dogfighting taking place at the house.  (AP)
