Slippery conditions cause crash

Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded last week to a personal-injury traffic crash as the result of a slippery road surface.
The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. Jan. 29 on Calvin Center Road, near Bulhand Street in Calvin Township.
The crash involved a Postle Aluminum semi-tractor and trailer. The investigation showed that the semi, driven by Mishawaka resident Darrin Curtis, 50, was northbound on Calvin Center Road when he lost control on the icy roadway.
The semi began to jackknife and left the road, striking a tree.
Curtis was transported to the Elkhart General Hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to investigators.
