Accidents closed Lutz Road for several hours

Emergency crews were already stretched thin Friday morning last week after a six-vehicle collision on Lutz Road in White Pigeon Township.
An unrelated crash scene not far from the Lutz Road incident added to the need for fire and rescue personnel.
In an attempt to make Lutz Road safe for emergency personnel, it was closed at Stears Road in Constantine Township shortly after the original accident at 7 a.m.
A southbound semi-truck driven by Gerald McGill, 48, of Riverdale, was unable to slow for a Constantine police vehicle blocking the intersection.
The trailer of the semi struck a Jeep driven by Stephanie Andre, 35, of Centreville, who had pulled to the side of the road and stopped. After striking the Andre vehicle, the trailer slid across Lutz Road and collided with the police vehicle.
Constantine police officer Josh Wiard was not in the vehicle and was able to get to a safe location before impact.
Andre was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.
The police vehicle was totaled.
Lutz Road between Mintdale and U. S. 12 was closed for nearly five hours while the crash was investigated.
