John Hostetler, 68

HostetlerJohn L. Hostetler, age 68, of Colon, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family, after several months of failing health.
John was born June l5, 1948, in Sturgis, a son of Levi and Edna (Hochstetler) Hostetler.
John had served in the U.S. Army.
He had made his home in the Colon area for the past 40 some years and was a member of Light and Life Wesleyan Church of Three Rivers.
On July 31, 1999, he married Sheila (Barker) Ashcraft in Crown Point, Ind.
John had worked in sales and marketing in the RV industry, working for Viking in Centreville and Palomino in Colon and also had worked for Hammer Transportation in Bristol, Ind.
John enjoyed fishing and golfing with his three sons. John also volunteered at Colon Food Pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hostetler, of Colon; three sons, David (Christine) Hostetler of Colon, Jonathon (Michele) Hostetler of Colon and Jared (Jennifer) Hostetler of San Jose, Calif.; two stepchildren, Brian Ashcraft, of Camby, Ind., and Stephanie (Andrew) Born of Lowell, Ind.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; his mother, Edna Hostetler of LaGrange, Ind.; two brothers, Jerry (Debbie) Hostetler of Colon and Fritz (Nancy) Hostetler of LaGrange, Ind.; four sisters, Ruby (LeVerne) Yoder of LaGrange, Ind., Esther (Jerry) Miller of Shipshewana, Ind., Rosie Hostetler of LaGrange, Ind., and Arlene (LaVern) Miller of Middlebury, Ind.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Levi Hostetler; and a brother, Crist Hostetler.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. Funeral services celebrating the life of John L. Hostetler will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at the funeral home, with Pastor Sam Maddox officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of John to Colon Food Pantry. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
