Man arrested after threatening deputies

A Niles man was arrested last week on several charges following an incident during which he allegedly used a machete to threaten deputies.
Cass County Sheriff Joe Underwood said Marty Ray Gipson, 44, was charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and three counts of resisting police.
Deputies were called at 1:15 a.m. Sept. 14 to a residence on Little Street in Howard Township in response to a report of domestic violence. Central dispatch received a call reporting the suspect was brandishing a machete and acting in a peculiar manner.
The victim told authorities Gipson was allegedly intoxicated and upset.
Deputies eventually had to fire two rubber bullets at Gipson in order for him to drop the weapon and to place him under arrest.
He was transported to Borgess Lee Hospital by SMCAS ambulance service for treatment of minor injuries.
