Constantine schools approved taking request to polls

Members of the Constantine Public Schools Board of Education have approved action to go to the polls later this year.
In November, a school bond proposal drew nearly 2,900 voters and the measure failed by 11 votes.
It would have netted the district more than $1.6 million through the board’s earlier action of refinancing school bonds. The excess funds could not be used without voter approval.
Funds were earmarked for technology upgrades, construction of a storage shed, replacement of cameras and school security systems, resurfacing of track and tennis courts, construction of a storage building and the purchase of On Track Learning Center to house Constantine Tech High School.
Superintendent Steve Wilson said an effort will be made to revise the ballot language to make clear the issue is not a millage-increase request.
