Two receive recognition from Sheriff’s Department

Two people received certificates of recognition Saturday from the St. Joseph County Sheriff ’s Department.
Wayne Schwartz of Centreville and Jonathan Anzaldua of Bronson each received an award for their action July 20.
Deputies took a report late that evening about a missing 61-year-old man with Alzheimer’s who had been last seen that morning at a home where he staying at Memory Lane.
Sgt. Jeremiah Abnet was assigned the call and searched the area, but was unable to find the man. While in the area of the 1100 block of West Chicago Road, Abnet saw a group of people, including Schwartz and Anzaldua, playing a game on cell phones.
He made contact with the group and gave them the name and description of the missing man. As they continued to play the game, Schwartz and Anzaldua found the man near U.S. 12 and South Centerville Road around 10 p.m., about a half-hour after speaking with Abnet.
They called police and Abnet was sent to that location; the man was returned to the home.
