K-9s receive body armor

Two local K-9 officers are more protected on the job thanks to a donation from the nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K- 9s.
White Pigeon K- 9 Zar and Sturgis K-9 Tucky each received body armor, sponsored by Oliver and Rita Miller of Taylor.
Vests are embroidered with the sentiment “Protect this K-9 from harm, in memory of Lori Miller.”
Both also received a trauma kit that includes bandages, gauze, saline solution and a canine oxygen mask.
Vested Interest in K- 9s is a 501(c)( 3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet- and stab-protective vests, and other assistance to police dogs throughout the U. S. The nonprofit was established in 2009 to help law enforcement agencies with potentially life-saving body armor for four-legged officers.
Vested Interest has provided more than 2,400 protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a cost of more than $ 1.9 million. All vests are custom-made in the U.S. by Armor Express in Central Lake.
The program is open to dogs on active duty in the U. S. with police or related agencies that are certified and at least 20 months old.
