Man arrested on drug and retail fraud charges

An Elkhart man was charged with offenses related to drugs and possession of stolen property following his arrest early Tuesday in Three Rivers.
According to a department media release, officers were alerted around 1:30 a.m. to a retail fraud in progress at Walmart. The suspect was stopped by officers on Millard Street near the intersection of U.S. 131.
K-9 officer Jake was brought to the scene and reacted positively to the presence of narcotics. Officers discovered inside the vehicle methamphetamine, scales and drug paraphernalia. In addition, about $1,000 worth of merchandise from area businesses was recovered from inside the suspect’s car.
The 25-year-old suspect was charged with possession of meth and driving without a license, while pending charges include possession of stolen property and retail fraud, according to authorities.
