Fundraiser purchases shoes for kids in need

A Sturgis real-estate agent recently purchased more than 100 pairs of shoes and boots for local children in need.

Stacy Schwenk, a realtor at Re/ Max Elite Group in Sturgis, had raised more than $1,500 to cover the cost of the purchases through a 5K walk/run fundraiser she calls Stacy’s Kicks for Kids.

The walk/run took place Aug. 12 at Centreville High School’s cross-country course. The second annual event of its kind, Schwenk said it raised twice as much in funds as it did at last year’s inaugural event.

Local companies that donated to the cause include Re/ Max Elite Group, Mendon Seed Growers, and Patrick Abstract & Title. Centreville Covered Bridge Days also donated the profits from its cornhole tournament to the fundraiser.
