Man crashes car into fallen tree

A Cassopolis man was injured after the car he was driving struck a tree fallen in the roadway.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to Shurte Road in Penn Township in response to a single-vehicle accident.

Behnke said deputies discovered a car driven by Derek Green, 22, had left the north side of the roadway near Decatur Road.

Green told deputies his vehicle struck a tree in the roadway then went off the road and hit a second tree.

Investigators said air bags deployed and a seatbelt was in use. Green suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to authorities.
