Multiple injuries in Cass County crash

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident over the weekend in Volinia Township.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies were called at 8:30 a.m. Saturday to Marcellus Highway, where a pickup driven by 56-year-old Carl Shelby Jr., 56, was heading east when it was struck by a westbound car that had lost control on an icy patch of roadway and crossed the centerline east of Lawrence Road.

The westbound vehicle was driven by 70-year-old Marilyn Koyl of Marcellus. Koyl was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo by West Michigan Air Care, as it is believed Koyl was not wearing her seatbelt, authorities said.

Shelby and his 56-year-old passenger, Sherry Shelby, were transported to Three Rivers Health. They were wearing seatbelts and suffered minor injuries, according to investigators.
