Head of Transportation Authority announces retirement

The leader of the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority the past 10 years has announced he will be retiring next month.

Steve Yorks, who joined the agency in 2008 after previously working as transportation director for Three Rivers Community Schools, will stay on board through the end of July. In the meantime, he will train his replacement, Susan Vosmik, who begins work Monday.

Vosmik has spent the past 16 years in public transportation, based in Schaumburg, Ill. She and her husband are in the process of permanently relocating to their home in Jones.

Joe Haas, chairman of the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority, said Yorks has led the Three Rivers-based agency through significant expansion of services, while at the same time maintaining expenses and the county-supported millage at the same level.
