Hearing to be held on school board president recall

St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald said the St. Joseph County Election Commission will hold a clarity/factual hearing on Statements of Reasons for recall of a Constantine Public Schools Board of Education member.

Oswald on Monday said the July 2 hearing will center on John Shuler, school board president. It will take place at 8:15 a.m. in the Probate Courtroom.

The move comes less than a week after an attempt to recall Shuler was suspended at the advice of legal counsel, which advised the original recall petition be rejected.

According to the petition, the attempted recall’s origin stemmed from a May 7 school board work session at Constantine High School, where Shuler is accused of allegedly making inappropriate statements to a pair of constituents.

Oswald said the latest attempt to force the recall was presented by Syntia Salisbury.
