“Vee” Swihart age 89, a resident of Buckhannon, WV passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society of Barbour County. She was born July 24, 1928 in Three Rivers, and resided in California. She graduated from nursing school in 1957 and started her career at Ventura County Hospital. She then went to work as a civilian nurse at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. After retiring from nursing,” Vee” moved to Charleston, WV and worked at West Virginia Department of Highways until her retirement. “Vee” is preceded in death by her husband Dick Swihart, a son Frank Swihart, son-in-law Jim Zirkle and grandson Brandon Fisher. She is survived by her daughter Gayle Zirkle, a son Pat Swihart, and a sister, Bonnie Boggie. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Gary George, Nikki Ortuglio, Joyce Weiskercher, Brooke Morgan, Shane Swihart and 10 great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, June 16, 2018 at the St. Brendan Catholic Church of Elkins with Father John Chapin as the Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Vantage Point Foundation, P.O. Box 31224, Charleston, SC 29417. Vantage Point Foundation is a charitable nonprofit organization that supports Marine and Navy Veterans in reintegrating to civilian life post 9/11.
