Arrest in Sturgis

A Sturgis man was arrested on a number of offenses after he was caught stealing a potted plant from a resident’s yard earlier this week.

According to a department media release, a homeowner witnessed the theft at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of South Fourth Street.

The homeowner was able to get a good description of the suspect and his direction of travel. As a result, Sturgis police soon after found the suspect with the plant in the 100 block of North Fourth Street.

Authorities said the suspect refused to cooperate with police and resisted arrest. After a short struggle, however, he was taken into custody.

A small amount of suspected methamphetamine was located with the suspect.

He is being charged with larceny, possession of meth, and two counts of resisting and obstructing police.
