Glen Oaks begins concourse renovation

Renovation of Glen Oaks Community College’s concourse began earlier this week with a ceremonial event led by school president David Devier.

The $2.2 million job will be led by Frederick Construction of Vicksburg as general contractor and Mishawaka-based Arkos Design will serve as project architect.

The college’s board is expected to meet Tuesday to finalize a loan through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A similar agreement with the federal agency allowed Glen Oaks to finance and construct on-site dormitories, which opened a year ago.

College officials said the concourse project will update the 50-year-old section, with the task expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Several local dignitaries were on hand during Wednesday’s gathering, which saw Devier and other officials take a turn with a sledgehammer at a portion of a wall that will be coming down as part of the renovation.
