Special police unit seeks to curb thefts from RV companies

A special police unit is seeking to curb burglaries and thefts from businesses including recreational vehicle companies in northern Indiana.

Police in the Elkhart County city of Goshen say their unit was formed to deal with such crimes in the city’s industrial areas.

The department says thefts had been increasing over the last several months, with items such as televisions being removed from completed RVs and from inside factory buildings. In one recent case, a man was arrested after officers spotted him burglarizing RV company Forest River.

In May, Michigan State Police said they’re recovered 17 travel trailers worth about $600,000 that were reported stolen from northern Indiana. In that case, detectives in LaGrange County, had opened an investigation after several recreational vehicle manufacturers reported thefts of trailers.  (AP)
