Sturgis restaurant damaged by fire

Fire damaged a Sturgis eatery over the weekend.

Sturgis Fire personnel were called at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to Culver’s, at 830 S. Centerville Road, after a report of smoke in the building.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the building full of smoke from an unknown origin. Crews eventually found a clothes dryer burning in the rear of the restaurant. The fire had been contained to the dryer thanks to an active sprinkler head.

The remaining fire was put out and the washer/dryer unit was removed from the building.

Investigators said the building sustained minor smoke damage but no structural damage.

There was, however, a large amount of water produced from the sprinkler head. Due to the amount of water in the store’s electric panels, the main power meter to the building had to be turned off.
