COA discussing Thurston Woods lease

Members of the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging Advisory Board discussed a Thurston Woods lease agreement at Sturgis Enrichment Center.

COA executive director Tim Stoll said Thurston Woods has been leasing space at Sturgis Enrichment Center to run Thurston Cares Adult Day Program, though the $2,500-per-month rate has raised some eyebrows, Stoll said.

Board member Al Balog asked if Thurston Woods was requesting an early termination on its lease. Stoll said the lease was for a 10-year term but after five years it could be terminated with a 12-month notice, he said.

Stoll said he believes the lease states that notice cannot be given within the first five years. He said the lease is currently in its third year.

The board will revisit the matter at its next meeting.
