Mendon village manager seat remains open

The village of Mendon is weighing its options in terms of how to proceed with its vacant village manager’s position.

Longtime village manager John Hyden retired in June and the village since then has relied on chief of police Dan Kennedy initially and now former village council member Kirk Spence to oversee the role.

Spence said he has held the job on an interim basis since October and the village council in March plans to revisit the situation, he noted. The 60-year-old Spence said the job is challenging but he would consider staying on if the council decides to keep him on a permanent basis.

Spence had previously served on the seven-member council for two years but chose to not seek re-election in November in order to take on the village manager’s job.
