Florence Township commits funding toward Constantine Road reconstruction

An update regarding the redevelopment of Constantine Road was provided during Tuesday’s St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners meeting.

During “Citizens Comments” at the onset of the county commission meeting, Florence Township Supervisor Gordon Evilsizor acknowledged commission chair Dennis Allen for being a part of Monday’s meeting in Florence Township.

Evilsizor said discussion Monday centered on whether the township would commit $50,000 toward funding the reconstruction of a one-mile stretch of Constantine Road, from Mintdale Road north to Featherstone Road.

In the end, he ended up breaking a 2-2 vote and sided with the trustees in favor of allocating the funding.

With Monday’s commitment from Florence Township, more than four miles of the 6.6-mile route will have been reconstructed.

Evilsizor said progress has been the result of collaboration between Florence and Constantine townships, the St. Joseph County Road Commission and the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners. All four have, at various times, pledged financial resources toward the project.
