Organizers of the Three Rivers Water Festival parade have issued a press release, indicating there is a shortage of floats participating in next month’s event.
The theme of the 2011 Water Festival is “Three Rivers’ 175th Birthday Celebration.”
The parade will start at 7 p.m. June 16. A rain date of June 17 is in place.
More information is available through the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, at 278-8193.
Organizers of the 54th annual Three Rivers Water Festival declared the event a success, despite a Friday night storm that forced the cancellation of the traditional parade.
Threatening weather to the west of St. Joseph County prompted the cancellation of the parade more than two hours before it was scheduled to start. As it turns out, the correct call was made, as severe weather pelted Three Rivers and the rest of St. Joseph County not long after the parade would have started.
Other than that blemish, the annual festival drew large crowds on opening day Thursday and its final day Saturday, when a fireworks show capped another Water Festival.
A variety of local and regional artists will be performing in the Community Tent on Saturday, June 19th, during this year’s Three Rivers Water Festival.
The performances will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a different artist each hour.
Returning this year is a crowd favorite – a Dulcimer Duo – and rounding out the great talent of the day is Gray’s Community Band starting at 3 p.m. Other acoustic and “plugged in” artists appealing to all ages will perform as well.
The Community Tent will be located in Scidmore Park behind the old hospital building.
Festival organizers say, “Come and support the up and coming artists and enjoy the entertainment while you stroll around the 54th Three Rivers Water Festival, with fun for all June 17th – 19th.”
The 54th annual Three Rivers Water Festival will include the popular Classic Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show on the streets of historic downtown Three Rivers on Saturday, June 19th.
Thanks to the support of many generous sponsors and local merchants, there will be awards for the Top 40 cars and trucks and Top 5 motorcycles as judged by owners, the popular “People’s Choice” award, a special “Youth Award” (for owners 25 and under), a “Veterans Award,” plus other special awards. Overall, 50 trophies and special awards will be given to recognize the classics and their owners.
More than 200 cars, trucks and motorcycles are expected to be on display.
Owners planning to show their vehicles will begin arriving for registration at 8 a.m. with judging and award presentations at 2:30 p.m. In addition to all the cars, trucks and motorcycles, the event will also feature a D.J. spinning classic hits from the 60’s. Door prizes for car owners and a raffle will also be available.
A special feature this year will be a showing of the 1968 movie classic “Bullitt”, starring Steve McQueen in one of the greatest car chases of all time through the streets of San Francisco. The movie will be shown at the historic Riviera Theatre at 11a.m. Advance tickets are available to the public at the Chamber office and the theatre for $5 with special reduced pricing available for car show registrants when they check in. Any unsold tickets will be available at the door the day of show. However, the advance purchase is recommended as a “sell-out” is projected.

As we experience these cold wintry days, it’s very easy to start planning and daydream two or three months ahead when we will once again experience warmer and sunnier days. This is exactly what the 2010 Water Festival Organizing Committee is doing right now and has been doing for the last month or so. The 54th Annual Water Festival will be here before we know it.
The committee is excited to announce the theme for this year’s festival, “TR DOWN ON THE FARM.” Join in celebration of the agriculture and farming industry we are blessed with in St. Joseph County, Michigan. The festival committee felt that this theme would help make everyone aware of how much agriculture plays in our everyday lives, right here in Three Rivers. We are, after all, a farming community.
If you have any ideas to share or even a little spare time to, give festival headquarters a call at (269) 278-8193. The time is right for planting those ideas and growing the best Three Rivers Water Festival ever.
The dates for this year’s Water Festival are June 17, 18, and 19.
