TR Water Festival in June
February 4, 2010 by WLKM · Leave a Comment
As we experience these cold wintry days, it’s very easy to start planning and daydream two or three months ahead when we will once again experience warmer and sunnier days. This is exactly what the 2010 Water Festival Organizing Committee is doing right now and has been doing for the last month or so. The 54th Annual Water Festival will be here before we know it.
The committee is excited to announce the theme for this year’s festival, “TR DOWN ON THE FARM.” Join in celebration of the agriculture and farming industry we are blessed with in St. Joseph County, Michigan. The festival committee felt that this theme would help make everyone aware of how much agriculture plays in our everyday lives, right here in Three Rivers. We are, after all, a farming community.
If you have any ideas to share or even a little spare time to, give festival headquarters a call at (269) 278-8193. The time is right for planting those ideas and growing the best Three Rivers Water Festival ever.
The dates for this year’s Water Festival are June 17, 18, and 19.
Water Festival wrap-up
“Perfect” is a word to describe the weather for the closing hours of this year’s Three Rivers Water Festival on Saturday (June 20th).
Justine Blazer was definitely a hit as she and her band entertained a large audience on the Main Stage in Memory Isle Park Saturday evening.
After stormy weather at times on Friday that added more “water” than desired to the festival, Saturday shaped up very nicely to accommodate a multiplicity of events and activities.
The day began with the Firefighters Pancake Breakfast at the fire station and ended in Memory Isle Park with an excellent concert by Justine Blazer and a memorable fireworks display launched from Memory Isle.
The weekend concluded with the annual Dawn Patrol at Three Rivers Airport was the scene on Sunday (June 21st) staged by the Three Rivers Pilots Association. Breakfast in one of the hangars, aircraft of all kinds, classic cars, old tractors, airplane and powered parachute rides, kiddie rides, and door prize drawings were among the ingredients of the event that coincided with the celebration of Father’s Day in Three Rivers.

The upcoming weekend will bring the wrap-up events for this year’s Three Rivers Water Festival plus the annual Dawn Patrol fly-in/drive-in pancake breakfast on Father’s Day – Sunday, June 21st.
The Dawn Patrol will be staged from 7 a.m. to 12 noon at the Three Rivers Airport.
The event will feature plane rides, powered parachute rides, vintage and experimental airplanes, “fly-in” aircraft of all kinds, Air Care helicopter, alcohol funny car, and kiddy train.
There will be static displays from the Three Rivers Fire Department, Three Rivers Police Department, the Mounted Posse Division and Scuba Diving Team from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, classic cars, radio-controlled planes, antique engines, and more!
Dawn Patrol attendees will be able to enjoy breakfast in the hangar while watching airplanes “fly in” and “taxi” on the tarmac.
Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee, juice and milk.
Tickets can be purchased at the event – adults, $7, kids from 5 to 12, $4. Children under 5 are free.
The Three Rivers Pilots Association is a non-profit organization whose members consist of men and women who love to fly. Profits are used to improve the airport and promote youth in aviation.
The Dawn Patrol is a “bonus event” to the Three Rivers Water Festival.

Water Festival Continues

This is “day two” of the 53rd annual Three Rivers Water Festival.
The day will feature a variety of activities including the Arts & Crafts/Commercial Marketplace and Community Tent in Scidmore Park and traditional bluegrass music by Deadwood in Memory Isle Park. Another highlight of the day will be the street parade at 7 p.m. with Mel Muffley as the “Grand Marshal.” “Mel” retired at the end of the just-concluded school year after serving for 27 years as the secretary to the Three Rivers High School principal.
The Water Festival will conclude on Saturday with a full day of activities capped by a concert by Justine Blazer and fireworks in Memory Isle Park.
For more information about the festival, contact the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce at (269) 278-8193 or visit the Chamber website at www.trchamber.com.
Parade to Go On
June 17, 2009 by WLKM · Leave a Comment
The Water Festival Parade, scheduled for Friday (06/19) evening at 07, will
take place, rain or shine. That’s the word from Deb Herring, Festival
Coordinator for the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce. The single
exception, however, would be thunderstorm activity. In that case, parade
officials will decide at 06:30 that evening and announce the decision on
WLKM. Entries and spectators alike should listen to WLKM for any
cancellation notices.
