Three students from Colon Jr./Sr. High School have been named local winners in the 45th annual “America & Me” essay contest, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. New phone system for health department

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has installed a new phone system in two of its county health department offices, and has plans to install the system into the third office by mid-July. Relay for Life generates funds

Last weekend’s Relay for Life in Three Rivers generated nearly $100,000. Event organizers said more than $98,000 was raised through pledges and donations. The relay, which helps raise funds for cancer research, started Friday evening and ended 24 hours later at Three Rivers High School. A White Pigeon woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident last week in Cass County’s Porter Township. A Sturgis man suffered minor injuries last weekend after the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer in Sherman Township. Sheriff’s officials said Samuel Brackob, 25, was heading north on Balk Road Saturday when a deer entered the roadway near Mintdale Road. Fire caused by lightning

Recapping last week’s fire at the Bentwater Apartments, Three Rivers Fire Chief Dan Tomlinson has issued a press release detailing the damage. The fire, caused by a lightning strike Wednesday afternoon, damaged a total of five of the building’s 16 apartment units.
