  The former administrative assistant for the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce was arraigned after she turned herself in Monday. Bond for Deb Herring, 57, of Schoolcraft, was set at $10,000 personal recognizance by magistrate Mark Books. A warrant for her arrest was issued Wednesday last week after a charge of embezzlement was authorized by the county prosecutor’s office. …

Arrest – Kalamazoo murder

The teenager suspected of killing a Kalamazoo man last week is now in police custody.  18-year-old DaQuan Pritchett turned himself in to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety on Sunday. 19-year-old Christopher Adams was shot and killed on the city’s northeast side on July 23.  According to reports, the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor plans to charge Pritchett with open murder. Texas man struck by vehicle

A Texas man, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was struck by a vehicle and killed Sunday night in Sturgis Township. Sheriff’s department officials said the 40-year-old man was walking on M-66 when he was struck by a northbound car driven by a 58-year-old woman from Washtenaw County. The incident occurred near the intersection of Bogen Road.

A Bristol, Ind., firm was chosen for the 2014 enhanced mill-and-resurface project in the city of Sturgis. The June unemployment rate in St. Joseph County increased by four-tenths of a percent compared to a month earlier. The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed St. Joseph County’s 6.1 percent June unemployment rate was more than May’s 5.7 percent.
