4th Annual Burr Oak Heritage Festival

The fourth annual Burr Oak Heritage Festival is set to kick off Friday.
The three-day event in St. Joseph County’s smallest incorporated community has a number of entertaining events, including a vintage baseball game between the Burr Oak Bandits and Sturgis Biscuits Friday night, a parade Saturday morning, fireworks Saturday night, and a community church service and picnic Sunday.
Patty Seeba, a member of the Burr Oak Heritage Festival Committee, said the lineup of events this year is the most comprehensive in the short life of the village’s community celebration.
Other events include port-a-potty races, a soap-box derby, a pizza-eating contest a display of old-fashioned farm machinery and plenty of live music.
Covered Bridge Days a success

Organizers of the annual Centreville Covered Bridge Days said mild weather and large crowds helped make the 2012 event a success.
The two-day event, which concluded Saturday, featured a well-attended fireworks display Friday, a classic car show Saturday that drew 167 vehicles, a large crowd to see Spike and the Bulldogs concert on Main Street and hundreds of people watching the event-ending parade.
Carole McClain, chair of the Covered Bridge Days Committee, said craft and food vendors also reported strong sales.
Covered Bridge Days starts today

Saturday’s second day of the annual Centreville Covered Bridge Days will have plenty to offer, including food, attractions and music.
Activities get started Saturday with the classic car show beginning at 8 a.m., a cake walk, bounce house, dunk tank and plenty of food will also be a part of the festival Saturday.
Spike and he Bulldogs will take the stage at 12:30 p.m. and the event-ending parade starts at 3:30 p.m.
The two-day Covered Bridge Days festival begins today.
56th TR Water Festival a success

The 56th Three Rivers Water Festival is in the books and event organizers are declaring the three-day celebration a success.
Saturday’s car show, stage performance and fireworks display were met with large crowds, continuing the trend of strong audience participation that started with Thursday’s opening-night parade.
A Friends of Scidmore Park fundraising event, “Kiss the Pig,” raised more than $4,000 and saw Mayor Tom Lowry earn the most votes to follow through on the premise of the campaign.
Gray’s Community Band to perform

Organizers of the 56th annual Three Rivers Water Festival have announced the Three Rivers-based Gray’s Community Band will perform on closing day of the three-day festival.
The band has been booked to perform 3 to 4 p.m. June 16 at the rear of Scidmore Park.
Parking for the free concert is along Spring Street.
Alan Turner and the Steel Horse Band will perform

Organizers of the 2012 Three Rivers Water Festival have announced Alan Turner and the Steel Horse Band will perform the final night of the three-day celebration.
The group will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16.
Turner, a Michigan native, is renowned for his connection with fans and his rich, baritone vocals.
The band gained prominence in 2009 with the debut single, “The Cowboy Code.”
The group will take to the Main Stage in Memory Isle Park preceding the Water Festival-ending fireworks show.
