This Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30, Three Rivers will celebrate “Christmas Around Town”. Many of the downtown merchants will be open both days in observance of this annual event. Santa Claus will make an appearance, along with some of his reindeer. In support of this event, the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority (CTA) will offer free rides throughout the downtown area. This will give everyone an opportunity to experience, first hand, the personal service provided by the CTA. The CTA is the only public transportation service available in St. Joe County, and ridership is growing everyday. If you’ve never gotten Out and About via the CTA, this would be the perfect opportunity to do just that. Watch for the bus with the Langley Covered Bridge on it and climb aboard for a FREE ride. Here’s a scary thought: Shopping for Christmas begins a week from Friday. I wonder how this day got tagged as “Black Friday”? Read more

From now until the end of the year, we will be either celebrating a holiday or preparing for one. It’s a time for parties and family gatherings, a time for shopping for gifts and for presenting those gifts that you’ve shopped long and hard for. Homemade gifts are less expensive, but they do require some imagination. Ellen Brunner is a person you might want to meet and work with. Ellen is the instructor of a class about innovative art projects using clay. Classes will take place at 10 A.M. on Friday, November 14 and 21 at the Three Rivers Senior Center, 103 S. Douglas, in Three Rivers. The unique thing is that there is no cost to participate. If interested, phone the Senior Center at 279-8083. They’ll register you and provide answers to any questions you might have. Read more

If you’re reading this and it’s before 8 P.M. on November 4, and you still haven’t done your civic duty and voted, then I strongly advise you to visit your polling place and cast your vote. If you are thinking that your vote won’t make a difference, you are very wrong. If you decide not to vote, you have no right to complain about the outcome of the election. On a personal note, the person who does win the Presidential election deserves the respect of the office and a chance to prove his worth. The same goes for the other candidates who have stepped forward, willing to serve, if elected to their desired position. Read more
