daphneWe just decided that my name is Daphne, I like it.  I am a 10 month old female Lab mix.  This lady said that my eyes are enchanting you see, one is blue and one is brown.  I have been getting a lot of attention today and I just love that.  No one has taken time to teach me things, I am very smart and I will be able to learn fast.  I do ok on a leash and will do better if someone would take me for walks.  I need to be exposed to the world because I’m a little jumpy about new things.  If you could stop by and get to know me you will be surprised at what a wonderful friend you will have.  I am in pen 2 tag 61 docket 9107 at the St Joseph County Animal Control located 652 E Main, Centreville, MI.  Animal Control is opened Monday – Friday from 8 AM – 4:30 PM.  Please visit the Animal Rescue Fund web site to see more adoptable pets.  Go to www.ARFund.org for more information about this group. Summer is here!  Everyone is having fun in the sun!  Many of our neighbors are struggling  and the need for pet food is still tremendous.  Donations can be dropped of at Beam sound & Video in Three Rivers or AC in Centreville.

AEP announces earnings

American Electric Power says second-quarter earnings dropped 57 percent, mainly from charges related to job and cost cuts.  The company cut close to 2,500 jobs, or 11.5 percent of its work force, recording a one-time charge of $293 million.  On Friday the electric utility posted a quarterly profit of $136 million, or 28 cents per share, compared with $316 million, or 67 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Without one-time charges the company would have earned $355 million, or 74 cents per share.  AEP’s revenue rose to $3.4 billion from $3.2 billion. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn 69 cents per share on revenue of $3.48 billion.  AEP, based in Columbus, Ohio, is one of the nation’s largest generators of power.  (AP)

Plane wreckage is located

Officials have located the wreckage of a small medical plane that crashed into Lake Michigan a week ago.  Four people remain missing, but Mason County Emergency Management Coordinator Liz Reimink said Friday “there is a possibility of victims within the area of the wreckage.”  She says the Michigan State Police Underwater Recovery Unit found  the downed aircraft Thursday evening using sonar.  The plane plunged into Lake Michigan off the coast of western Michigan on July 23 while flying a cancer patient to the Mayo Clinic.  After combing the area for 27 hours, authorities abandoned hope Saturday of finding alive the four missing. The pilot was rescued.  (AP)

Leak estimate is increased

July 29, 2010 by WLKM · Leave a Comment

The Environmental Protection Agency says it believes more than a million gallons of oil may have leaked this week into a major southern Michigan waterway that leads to Lake Michigan.  The estimate reported Wednesday night from the EPA exceeds earlier estimates from the company responsible for the spill into Talmadge Creek, which runs into the Kalamazoo River. Those estimates totaled about 819,000 gallons.  EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson says in a statement the agency and Enbridge Inc. are taking action on the “serious spill.”  The EPA says it’s requested the Coast Guard make $2 million available to fund the federal government’s operations in response to the spill. And the EPA will move additional vessels into the area within days to assist in the response.  (AP)
