Driver gets recognition

January 21, 2010 by WLKM

Remember the news story last week about the St. Joseph County Commission on Aging (COA) “Meals on Wheels” driver who discovered a house fire with the occupant still in the house?

The driver, “with much encouragement,” was able to get the occupant out of the house and then used her cell phone to report the fire.

There’s a sequel to the story in the form of action Wednesday (January 20th) by the COA Board to authorize presentation of a certificate of recognition to the driver – who wishes to remain anonymous – “for the wonderful job that she did.”

The fire occurred in the 900 block of Fourth Street last Wednesday (January 13th). According to the Three Rivers Fire Department, the fire was contained to the room of origin, but required extensive overhaul.
