Want to run for a school board seat?

If you’re considering running for a school board seat or the Glen Oaks Community College Board of Trustees, here’s an advisory from St. Joseph County Clerk Pattie Bender that will be of interest:
Petitions are due for school board members and Glen Oaks Community College trustees by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10th.

Petitions are FILED IN THE COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE IN CENTREVILLE, located in the Historic Courthouse, 125 W. Main on the 2nd floor.

School board members will be elected on May 5th. All schools will have one or more positions on the school board to be elected. Glen Oaks will have three trustees to be elected.

Those candidates wishing to run for school board positions in Burr Oak, Centreville, Colon, Constantine, Mendon, Nottawa and White Pigeon need to file a minimum of six signatures and a maximum of 20 signatures. Those candidates for Sturgis and Three Rivers school board seats and the Glen Oaks Community College board need a minimum of 40 signatures and a maximum of 100 signatures. They will also need to file an affidavit of identity that must be notarized. That must be filed by the petition deadline filing date and time. The county clerk’s office will complete that form and notarize it when petitions are brought in if desired. In lieu of petitions, candidates may file a nonrefundable $100 filing fee along with the affidavit of identity to secure a spot on the ballot.

Bender said, “The superintendent’s office in your school will likely have petitions for you to pick up, but if they do not, we have them in the County Clerk’s Office.”

If you have any questions please call the office at (269) 467-5603.
