Old hospital may be demolished

The status of the old Three Rivers Hospital was discussed earlier this month by city officials.

Mayor Al Balog and commissioners fielded concerns about the state of the abandoned building from resident Richard Price, who addressed Balog and commissioners about its deteriorating condition.

City Manager Joe Bippus said Three Rivers is attempting to secure grant money to help offset the cost of demolishing the structure. Bippus after the meeting said he’s skeptical the building will ever be used again and indicated the most practical solution might be to level the structure, located east of Spring Street.

A Jackson-area man had expressed interest in buying the facility a few years ago and using it for a haunted house, but he said he could not come to terms with the city on its purchase.
