Out and About – Week of February 14th

Diane Foghino, Shannon Piper, and the entire cast and crew of TRCP’s production of A MUSICAL REVUE & AYE DO thank the many patrons who attended last weekend’s production at The Players Theatre in Three Rivers. Those who attended were made aware of the talent that abounds in the Three Rivers community. If you did attend and left the theatre humming a few of the songs or were still chuckling over some of the scenes of the second act, then please watch for upcoming productions and plan to attend some of them. ANNIE will be the next show, so please look for audition dates and schedule of performances. Once you’ve attended a show, you’ll want to become season-ticket holders.

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. I would hope that you all remembered to do something special for your Valentine. Speaking as a male, I would strongly recommend that you guys show your feelings for your significant other 365 days a year. It makes life so much more fun.

Super Bowl Forty Five is now history and things in “Title Town”, better known as Green Bay, are still in the settling down stages. I thought it was a well-played game. The thing about the Super Bowl or the World Series is that it’s the best playing the best, so it’s bound to be a fun thing to watch. For me, it was the first time when I didn’t care who won the game. Commercials have been better, along with the singing of the National Anthem. The flyover and the color guard will always give me goose bumps.

The Riviera Theatre in historic downtown Three Rivers has some coming attractions that should appeal to everyone. If movies and documentaries are your thing, then you’ll definitely want to check out the CHAPLIN RETROSPECTIVE SERIES and SIMON AND GARFUNKEL’S BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER. CHAPLIN RETROSPECTIVE SERIES will be shown February 22 and 24 at

8:30 P.M. and again February 26 at 1 P.M. SIMON AND GARFUNKEL’S BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER will be shown February 25 at 7 P.M. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please phone (269)278-8068. You may visit the Riviera website anytime at www.trriviera.com.

The Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) informs me that plans are well underway for this year’s Dinner Auction to be held Saturday, April 16 at the Three Rivers High School’s cafeteria. There have already been confirmations from major companies offering their support for this year’s event. For example, food will be generously donated by Outback Steakhouse in Kalamazoo. Outback personnel will be on hand to not only cook the dinner for the attendees, but to also serve and wait tables. If you happen to visit Outback in Kalamazoo, thank them for their generosity. If you’re considering attending the dinner auction, tickets are available from ARF members or you may call (269)467-6434 or (269)496-7249 for more information. ARF’s website is also available at www.ARFund.org.

Here are two final winter weather terms to help you better understand your local weather reports on the radio or television:

SNOW SHOWERS: Snow falling at varying intensities for brief periods of time. Some

accumulation is possible.

FREEZING RAIN: Rain that falls onto a surface with a temperature below freezing. This

causes it to freeze to surfaces, such as trees, cars, and roads, forming a

coating or glaze of ice. This can cause a significant hazard.

Two months from today is the deadline for having your income taxes filed. If you’re a procrastinator, you have nothing to worry about. If you’re a bit nervous, or if you’re expecting a large return, then you’ve already scheduled an appointment to have your taxes done, or you’ve already received your return. For taxpayers with middle and low income, with special attention to those age 55 and older, there are AARP volunteer tax consultants available at the Three Rivers Senior Center, 103 South Douglas Avenue in Three Rivers. Until April 14, on Thursdays between the hours of 9 A.M. and 1 P.M., a tax consultant will meet with the first 30 seniors signed in at the clinic. You might want to obtain specific information on what to take with you by calling the Senior Center at (269)279-8083.

See you Out and About!
