Out and About – Week of May 2nd

I don’t know where the month of April went, but for me, it was gone before I realized it was here. And talk about April showers! I won’t even get into that.

Diane, of Mobile Bike Repair, has come up with a great idea. She has organized Saturday morning bike rides. Starting this next Saturday, May 7, and continuing every Saturday during the month of May, everyone is invited to join her for a one-to-two-hour bike ride around the Three Rivers area. The group will depart Health TRAC at 9 A.M. and ride at an easy pace. Helmets will be required for all participants. The experience is FREE, and bad weather will be the only thing that would prevent the ride from happening. If you have questions, please call (269)816-8473.

It must be spring, because Trinity Episcopal Church, 321 North Main Street in Three Rivers, is having a rummage sale this Thursday and Friday, May 5 and 6. Thursday’s hours are from 7 A.M. to 6 P.M., and hours for Friday are from 9 A.M. until noon. Sale items include clothing for adults and children, toys, and household items. Friday is “Bag Day”, so each bag of items will sell for $1.

Everyone must be in the spring-cleaning mode, because there will be a “Mom-to-Mom” sale this Saturday, May 7 at Hoppin Elementary School on North Main in Three Rivers. The school covers the entire 400 block of North Main and is directly across the street from Lafayette Park. Anyway, the sale starts at 9 A.M. and continues until 2 P.M. in the school gym. On sale will be gently used infant, toddler and children’s items, plus maternity items. If you have items you’d like to sell, registration is only $20, and this reserves a table and space for your sale items. To register, or if you have questions, call Amy at (269)816-0376.

If you haven’t had the chance to give your family vehicle a good spring washing, then you’ll definitely want to consider taking it over to the Three Rivers Fire Department parking lot this Saturday, May 7. Boy Scout Troop 414 will “Be Prepared” to wash your vehicle from 9 A.M. until noon. It’s a perfect opportunity to get the family taxi all nice and shiny for taking Mom out to dinner on Mother’s Day.

St. John’s Lutheran Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, both of Three Rivers, will host a Caregivers Workshop a week from tomorrow, Wednesday, May 11, from noon until 4 P.M. A lunch will be provided from noon until 12:30 for a suggested donation of $5. Beginning at 12:30, various speakers will present timely topics that will be of interest to caregivers. Topics include: How to be an Advocate, Long-Distance Caregiving, Grief, Choosing a Facility, COA Programs and Services, and Caring for Yourself. If this interests you, you must RSVP before Sunday, May 8. You may do so by phoning St. John’s Lutheran Church at (269)278-7245.

For you fans of opera, the Riviera Theatre, in historic downtown Three Rivers, has once again scheduled some outstanding selections for the month of May. The Barber of Seville is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11, at 6 P.M., and again Sunday, May 29, at 3 P.M. When it comes to entertainment, the Riviera Theatre always has something for everyone. Check their website for a full lineup of activities: Www.trriviera.com.

This Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, the Three Rivers Lions Club will be out in force seeking donations for their White Cane project. They will greet everyone from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. at Wal-Mart, Harding’s, and Walgreens in Three Rivers. When you see a Lion at any one of these locations, give from your heart. Your donation will go a long way in helping someone less fortunate.

Next Sunday is Mother’s Day. Please do something special for your mother. After all, she is the one who gave you life.

See you Out and About!
