99 Backpacks Filled

September 1, 2011 by WLKM

The White Pigeon Township Library on Tuesday filled 99 backpacks with a variety of school supplies.

Library Director Perri Saunders said the seventh annual “Operation Backpack” event featured the most backpacks donated in its history. Financial donations allowed the library to purchase additional materials that were in lesser supply.

A team of almost a dozen student volunteers worked to fill the backpacks, which will be distributed next week to students at White Pigeon’s Central Elementary School. A few will be passed out to students at White Pigeon Middle School and White Pigeon High School.
