Law Enforcement At GOCC

Glen Oaks Community College will have full-time law-enforcement coverage from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department starting Oct. 4.
The move follows an agreement between the Centreville-area college and the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners, whose members approved the measure Tuesday.
County Administrator Judy West-Wing said the arrangement is similar to contract-for-coverage agreements the county already has in place with the village of Centreville and Fabius Township. Glen Oaks will pay the county about $82,000 per year over the course of the three-year contract.
In return, Deputy Jay Parker will provide the school law-enforcement and a security presence 40 hours a week, according to Undersheriff Mark Lillywhite. He said the college and the sheriff’s department will meet in the next week and map out a schedule to identify the days and hours Parker will be on duty.
